Brucellosis is a zoonotic disease, caused by bacteria from Brucella genus. It is distributed worldwide. Despite eradication programmes, brucellosis continues to be a big issue for public health and for economy policies. Therefore, knowledge of the mechanisms and strategies employed by B. abortus to persist in the host is crucial for the design of effective vaccines and treatments for disease control. In turn, such immune evasion strategies could be extrapolated to the context of other intracellular infections and tumors.
