Dr. Florencia Sabbione earned her bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences from the University of Buenos Aires (UBA) between 2003 and 2010. She then completed her PhD in the area of Biological Chemistry, also at UBA, between 2011 and 2016. She is currently an Associate Researcher at the Institute of Experimental Medicine (IMEX — CONICET-ANM), part of the National Scientific and Technical Research Council (CONICET) and the National Academy of Medicine of Buenos Aires (ANM). She also serves as an Associate Professor I at Universidad Austral, in the Faculty of Biomedical Sciences, in the Biochemistry Department.
Her disciplinary field is Medical Sciences (Biochemistry and Molecular Biology), and her area of expertise is innate immunity. Her work focuses on innate immunology, with particular emphasis on the role of neutrophils in the inflammatory response — especially in infections caused by Shiga toxin–producing bacteria (STEC) — exploring the roles of IL-1β and extracellular vesicles.
