Committees and commissions
The Biosafety Committee of the Institutes of the National Academy of Medicine has members from the two institutes in which biological materials are used. The function of this committee is to provide advice, training and promoting safe management of biological risk. On the other hand, in conjunction with the Hygiene and Safety Commission from the National Academy of Medicine, is in charge of evaluating projects, prior to their submission, and new procedures in order to ensure compliance with safety and biosafety standards.

It is the responsibility of its members to contribute to maintaining the highest academic demands addressed to IMEX members.
One of its tasks is to endorse the research projects to be submitted by researchers and scholarship holders, taking into account their feasibility and compliance with the bioethics and biosafety regulations established by the IMEX and the ANM.
It is also the function of this committee to monitor the doctoral thesis carried out at the Institute in order to contribute to their successful development.

The Institutional committee for the care and use of experimental animals (CICUAL) was created by resolution of the IMEX Institutional board on July 22 of 2015, in order to ensure that activities that involve the use of animals for research or service carried out within the IMEX, are developed in a humanitarian manner and according to international ethical standards.
The functions of the CICUAL are:
- To observe and evaluate activities that involve the use of animals
- To ensure the well-being and good sanitary conditions of the animals used in the scope of the IMEX
- To guide the members of the institution in aspects related to the care and use of animals in the IMEX.
- To advise researcher’s teams on the basic principles of the three Rs (refinement, reduction, replacement).
- To propose and provide training courses.
- To raise reports in the event of observation of conduct that violates international ethical standards within the IMEX Animal Facility.
- To interact with other committees of similar function.

The objectives of the commission are:
Identify unfavorable working conditions for women and diversities and/or situations of discrimination or violence due to gender reasons.
To generate spaces where experiences, realities, and specific content can be discussed to make visible and/or demolish limitations for the professional growth of women in science and promote actions that lead to the abolition of differences in opportunities between individuals due to their gender status.
To organize training activities and disseminate socio-cultural measures to insert individuals of any gender and cultural identity in the Institute and the scientific sector in general.
To articulate with other Gender Commissions of the university sector and/or Science and Technology.
